Denver’s Story
One of our Committee Members spotted Denver on the Dogs Trusts Kenilworth website in July 2008. It was thought that he may well be a Toller or Toller cross. Arrangements were quickly made to visit the kennels, where we met a very confused and unhappy dog.
Denver was exhibiting some aggressive behaviour and we were only allowed to meet him whilst he was wearing a muzzle. He was not thriving in this environment. We learnt some of his history, and found that this was his second visit to the Dogs Trust after a previous rehoming went wrong as the family turned out to be unsuitable for his needs. After a period of just over one year with the family he was returned to the Kenilworth branch, where he had remained for over 11 months until we found him.
Whilst turning out not to be a true Toller, our rescue program was still open to him as a possible Toller cross, to help give him the life he deserved. After meeting with the Dogs Trust and informing them about our rescue program and what we could offer Denver (and any other Tollers that they may come into contact with in the future) they were more than happy for us to adopt him so he can start a new life.
He is currently staying with Helen Withey at her Norfolk Dog Training school where he is undergoing evaluation and rehabilitation.
Denver is not yet available for re-homing but as you can see below is settling in very well, and is already a much happier boy.
September update
Whilst Denver is still not yet available for re-homing he has settled in well at Helen’s and continues to go from strength to strength and now happily spends his days playing with the other dogs and is enjoying life. Here is a recent photo of him relaxing in the sun.
April 2009 Update
Denver is still continuing to improve and Helen is now able to let him have raw marrow bones and not only allows her in the kennel when he has one but also take it from him. This is a real break through and shows the trust he now has with her. We really hope that one day he will learn to trust other people as much as he now trusts Helen, as its clear to see that he really does want to be friendly and loved .
July 2009 Update
It is now a year since Denver was rescued and he has improved greatly, although it is doubtful whether he will be rehomed due to the problems he has. The quality of his life now is much improved, living with several other dogs and having a great deal of freedom to play with others. He has been trained to track and given demonstrations in this discipline on training courses. We are hoping he will continue to learn and improve his social skills.
Regular updates on Denver can always be found on our forum.
